Nerve Blocks
Nerve blocks deliver anesthetic medication to stop nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. Sometimes we leave a tiny tube next to the nerve and deliver numbing medicine near the nerve for an extended period of time via a small portable infusion pump. This process numbs the targeted area(s), reducing and controlling pain after surgery. Nerve blocks are commonly used for surgery on the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, knee, leg and foot. Traditionally, nerve blocks are only placed in hospitals. For patients who have their nerve blocks placed in a hospital setting, we are still available to help troubleshoot the blocks if they wear off too soon or if the tube that is sometimes left in place seems to malfunction. At ACP, we often place the nerve blocks at our facility after the patient leaves the hospital or surgical center. In these cases, we have a 24 hour hotline available to any patient who needs help with pain control after surgery. We also call the patient every day that a nerve block is in place to make sure that their pain is under control.
Ketamine Treatments
We also provides ketamine infusions for post-operative pain, as well as for other indications like chronic pain and depression. Research shows that when administered in low, predictable doses, ketamine infusions are safe and can effectively reduce post-operative pain. Our expert team may recommend ketamine infusions with other pain management options and will work closely with other providers and specialists to provide a comfortable and relaxing environment during treatment.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is a safe and proven medical technique that has been around for decades and used to treat an array of medical issues and conditions. Nerve cryotherapy, also known as cryoneurolysis, involves using localized freezing temperatures to numb an irritated or damaged nerve. A low-risk procedure, cryoneurolysis is generally no more painful than a nerve block and is commonly used to treat pain in the knee, ribs, or other very specific nerve injuries due to trauma or surgery. The effects of cryoneurolysis last for approximately three months, at which point the nerve has healed itself.
